NC teen: Nose ring more than fashion, it's faith
Sep 16, 2010
A 14-year old girl by the name of Ariana Iacono has been suspened twice from Clayton High school for violating Johnston County school system's dress code. Ariana and her mother belong to the Church of Body Modification, a small group unfamiliar to rural North Carolina, where in her religion she gets to wear body jewelry and has aroused the opinions of American Civil Liberties Union to fight over the First Amendment, where in doubt expresses her freedom of religion. For now Ariana has been updated with her school work at home while the others sit down in class. She only wants to enter a good college and find a just solution to the problem.
Having just 14-years old, the school should not be worried about what she wears or not, rather help her out through school and get the chance to enter a 4-year college. It is also fair that Ariana should follow school codes and rules as the other students do too. Freedom of religion should not be involved for whatever reason and should follow the first amendment out of school grounds. If Ariana comes to an agreement with the school she can be able to go back to school and continue her studies... A simple solution: Remove the nose stun.
